Carrie Underwood says she’s happy with her first acting performance on the big screen.
The country music star plays a small but pivotal role in the film “Soul Surfer,” the inspirational tale of shark-attack survivor Bethany Hamilton.
“I’m happy with myself for the role and for the movie,” Underwood said. “Am I going to win an Oscar? No. It was so much fun, and the important thing is getting the story out there.”
Underwood plays youth pastor Sarah Hill, a key figure in Hamilton’s life and recovery after the attack. Hamilton, then 13, lost her left arm when a 14-foot tiger shark ripped it off while she was surfing with friends in Hawaii. “Soul Surfer,” which opened last week, is the tale of her recovery and triumphant return to the sport she loves.
Underwood says she was transfixed by the story and the message, which made it rise above other scripts and projects she has been pitched and so far turned down.
The former “American Idol” champion was noncommittal when asked if the movie is the beginning of an acting career, though.
“You never know. I’m not saying anything either way,” Underwood said. “I’m very busy with music, and that’s what I love, that’s what I know. But, you know, this was special. It didn’t fit into my schedule at all, but we made time for it. It was so special. So if something else really special came along, I’m not going to say ‘never.’ ”

(RTTNews) – Carrie Underwood is set to co-host the upcoming “America’s Opry Weekend New Faces of Country” special this weekend.
The “Cowboy Casanova” singer will share her personal success story with new Opry members during the show. She was inducted just three years ago by country legend Randy Travis.
Underwood and her co-host Mike Terry will be playing the music of some new voices on the Opry stage and Country music charts. It will also include interviews, special performances and behind the scenes pieces.
When asked by interviewers what she wants to have accomplished by the time she’s a tem-year Opry member, Underwood said: “I really don’t set too many goals for myself. I just go with the flow and enjoy opportunities to do new things as they come around. I just hope I continue to be happy and healthy.”

Oklahoma’s country superstars Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood, Oklahoma-related Miranda Lambert plus Martina McBride and Jennifer Nettles are among the performers scheduled for “Girls’ Night Out: Superstar Women of Country.”
The new concert special, taped at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, will be broadcast at 8 p.m. April 22 on CBS, instead of the previously announced May date. The event is a tribute concert paying respect to today’s most talented country music female artists, all of whom will be honored by the Academy of Country Music for career achievement.
Lambert, who is planning her wedding to country music star Blake Shelton and makes her home near Tishomingo, took home her first Grammy last month for Best Female Country Performance. Lambert will be recognized for being the first female in the Academy’s history to win Album of the Year twice for both 2007 and 2009.
McEntire, who was selected for induction into the Country Hall of Fame on Tuesday, will receive recognition for winning Top Female Vocalist seven times, more than any other artist in Academy history.
Underwood will receive accolades for being the only female in the Academy’s history to win Entertainer of the Year twice – in 2008 and 2009.
McBride is being honored by ACM Lifting Lives for her dedication to “raising social consciousness” through her songs including “Independence Day” and “Concrete Angel” And, Nettles will be recognized as one of only two female artists to solo write and perform Song of the Year “Stay.”
